BMW E12 530i Kinley 24h Spa 1978 Peltier-Nève
The Kinley liveried BMW 530i by Team Serge Power that Alain Peltier and Patrick Nève took to third place in the 1978 Spa Francorchamps 24h. Not an easy build at all.
The donor model is an Ottomobile street car that needed a full conversion towards a race car. This includes removing the front seats and adding a racing seat, fire extinguisher, roll cage and side exhaust. The front spoiler got a splitter added, the rear spoiler and bumper were removed. The wheels are (further) customized Uli Nowak’s. The conversion is not 100% complete: the mirrors are close but not entirely the real thing, the front indicators I included as decals rather than crafting something … and I just couldn’t paint over the beautiful chrome parts on the sides (door handles & vents in C style).
The decal set is 100% self-researched, designed and made. Once again not an easy job as the flowing striping pattern goes around the entire car and is not symmetric left/right. The 1:43 Solido model that I bought as a reference isn’t accurate either. Luckily I found some additional reference photos. Alain Peltier’s son has published a lot of great racing pictures here.
