BMW E30 M3 Monteshell ITCC 1989 Laffite
Another custom build of a car that competed in the 1989 Italian Supertouring championship. This is the E30 M3 (nr.16) raced by legendary driver Jacques Laffite for team Bigazzi. Other drivers in that team were Tarquini (nr.18) and Martini (nr.19). An eye-catching livery, and quite an historic one as sponsor Monteshell (oil companies “Montedison” + “Shell”) existed for only a couple of years under that name. The racing livery is probably best known from the 1993 Ferrari F40 in these colors.
Two donor models were used: a Minichamps plain body white and a Minichamps Tic Tac Engstler. This last one was used for the perfect white OZ Racing wheels. The rear spoiler was ground down from the original Evo model to a 1989 model. Similar transition for the roll cage: the more complex early nineties roll cage was replaced by a time period correct one from an Autoart model. The big yellow and red stripes on the car are airbrushed. Everything else is decals. All decals were made by me. The last reference photo is not from the same year but seemed too good to pass up.
