BMW E36 318i Castrol Procar 1994 JM Martin
JM Martin’s BMW 318i with which he competed in the 1994 Belgian Procar championship is a French ORECA prepared car that only competed in this championship a couple of times. The car is on Tecnomagnesio wheels. The donor car for this custom build was a 318i Winckelhock. The inspiration model was the 1:43 Minichamps model, which I ended up buying for reference due to a lack of good reference photos of the original car.
I designed the 1:18 decal set from scratch instead of copying and enlarging the 1:43 logos. The wheels are 6-spoke Compomotive alu wheels from Uli Nowak. Close enough … Seatbelts are added to the race seat and safety pins to the hood – details normally not found on E36 UT models.
Eventually some good photos came my way after all thanks to a very knowledgeable member of Bimmerboard Belgium. This also allowed me to correct some of my initial designs that were based on incorrect Minichamps design: the “INNO” logo should be italic instead of upright, the “94” in the “Belgian94Procar” wordmark should be yellow instead of black, and so on.
The model is not unique in 1:18 as another E36 fan Bimmerboard member created his own custom build with this decal set.
